It you want to improve your photography, learn from a world renowned photographer and spend time in a famous, breath-taking beach location ... our workshops are for you.

Our next workshop is at Karekare beach on Sunday 29 August.

The " Hillary Trail"

On 11th January 2010 a four day tramping route through the Waiatkere Ranges, to be known as the Hillary Trail in honour of the late Sir Edmund Hillary, was officially opened.

The trail which takes in the Arataki Visitor Centre, Whatipu, Karekare, Piha, Anawhata and Bethells on up to Muriwai passes through some of New Zealand’s most spectactular coastal scenery. The overall distance is about 70kms but it can easily be broken up and accessed at different points along the way.

Paintings by Kim Holt

At the Lodge we are delighted to have on display a selection of paintings by local artist Kim Holt.

Kim and her husband Frank moved to New Zealand from the UK in 2004 and immediately fell in love with Auckland's west coast. They bought a bach in Parau and soon settled into the "westie" way of life.

Kim's love of art, which she had studied at school, was revived after some 19 years of not painting and she began to experiment with acrylics on canvas neither of which she had ever used before. Never having been a " free spirited" artist, Kim prefers to be precise and defined and now just loves trying to capture the amazing scenery which surrounds her.

Kim's paintings are for sale (we take no commission) and several now have homes overseas as well as in other parts of New Zealand.
